On April 19, a significant journey for justice begins.
Kerrupmara/Gunditjmara man Travis Lovett, a respected leader and former Yoorrook Justice Commissioner, is leading the National Walk for Truth. Over 39 days, Travis will walk from Narrm (Melbourne) to Ngunnawal Country (Canberra), arriving at Parliament House on May 27 to mark the start of National Reconciliation Week.
| Travis is carrying a kangaroo skin with an open letter burned into it. The letter calls on the Prime Minister to establish a national Truth-telling process, one that is led by First Nations people and grounded in genuine partnership. Before the skin is handed over in Canberra, the total number of people who have signed the letter will be burned into the hide. It will serve as a physical record of how many Australians are demanding an honest reckoning with our history. |
