After a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic it was great to attend YABUN in Victoria Park once again, offering my services as a photographer to document Survival Day on January 26th and the wonderful cultural activities involved…something I’ve been doing for years.
In that time I’ve noticed growing numbers of those attending, from the original Aboriginal families and friends celebrating this special day together to ever-increasing supporters from all backgrounds, ages and nationalities.
And ever since dance was introduced it’s been so gratifying to observe more and more dance groups participating (although this year reduced numbers were involved, once again due to the pandemic)…with men, women and little children gathering to celebrate this age old culture by dancing together, the confidence of the children growing with each year nurtured by their elders.
A magical day to be a part of for everyone!
