Why not have Australia Day on March 3? This commemorates the passing of the Australia Act in 1986, which ensured the British Parliament could not override Australian laws and we could choose our own Governer General. This date gives greater honour to all the heritages that form modern Australia. Ancient Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, British common law and multicultural traditions, all of which are working to build a unique nation. January 26 could be designated a Memorial Day as a sign of respect.
