For too long we have seen First Nations Young People deprived and denied of opportunities and environments that support them at critical stages of their cultural and personal development journeys.
Some of the barriers our young mob experience in accessing these opportunities are:
- Not attending cultural mentoring / community connection programs due to a lack of confidence in identity and fear of being judged.
- Do not live in a community that offers mentoring, cultural or community connection programs.
- Are in Out of Home Care with no connection to culture or community.
- Are not living in a functional or stable environment that prioritizes attending programs of this nature.
- Do not have access to transport to access community programs.
- Are experiencing incarceration.
- Are experiencing a form of homelessness.
- Do not have any positive role models in their lives.
Karreeta Meerta Peeneeyt eliminates these barriers by bringing a strength based, inspiring and culturally appropriate program to the comfort and safety of the young person, not them having to come to it. Although Yarn Bark highly values face to face programs, workshops and camps, we believe this online program can and will impact thousands of First Nations Young People that would otherwise not get an opportunity of this kind.
Although Yarn Bark is actively trying to seek funding from the appropriate bodies to cover the costs associated with providing access to this program, this takes time and is difficult for a small grassroots business to achieve.
HOW WE ARE ASKING YOU TO HELP
I’m calling out to the Yarn Bark Community to help fund the initial pilot of 50 x First Young People to access and participate in Karreeta Meerta Peeneeyt – Grow & Rise Up Strong.
By conducting this pilot, it will help us show why this program should be made accessible to every First Nations Young Person that needs it in their life.
For a registration fee of $200 each young person will have access to the online program for a 2-year period. This includes direct access to Yarn Bark Mentors and Facilitators.
If you are willing to pledge $200 to support a young person to participate in this program please follow the below instructions:
- At the checkout link below click the “send as gift” button near the top of the page.
- Direct the gift to my email – [email protected]
- Choose one of many payment options and follow checkout instructions.
- I will then allocate your gifted program registration to a First Nations Young Person.
